Used in ponds up to 1500 gallons, the Lifegard All In One Filter provides all 3 of the major components of pond filtration: mechanical, biological and uv filtration...all in one self contained unit.
Powered by a quiet and efficient pump, water is pulled into the unit where it first passes through the powerful 9 watt UV lamp used to sterilize the water and kill any free floating algae (the kind responsible for green water). A separate plug powers the UV lamp so that uv filtration can be controlled and used only as needed, preserving the UV bulb life and reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
Once sterilized, the pond water is further filtered by the system’s mechanical filtration chamber. Consisting of high quality filter sponges, this stage is used to trap and remove large pieces of debris and waste from the water. This specialized filter sponge material provides maximum surface area where heterotrophic bacteria can colonize and break down the trapped debris.
After being sterilized and rid of large debris, the yet-to-be-fully-filtered water passes through the biological filtration chamber where another set of specialized filter media is housed providing the ideal environment for the all important nitrifying bacteria. This biological filtration is the most critical aspect of pond filtration, particularly in fish ponds. It is at this stage that toxic ammonia and nitrites are neutralized and converted into less harmful nitrates, creating the ultimate in healthy pond water.
After biological filtration, the water is ready to be returned to the pond. This is done through the fountain attachment installed on the topside of the unit. The Lifegard All In One Pond Filter comes with 4 different fountain head attachments allowing the owner options for their fountain display, while also adding beneficial aeration to the pond as well.
Installation of the Lifegard All In One Pond Filter is simple too.
